FC Barcelona , Spanish professional football (soccer) club located in Barcelona . FC Barcelona is renowned for its historically skillful and attractive brand of attacking football that places an emphasis on flowing, open play. The team is part of a wider sports and social club with thousands of members.

FC Barcelona was formed in 1899 by businessman Joan Gamper, who advertised for players in a local Barcelona sports magazine. The club’s first trophy was the Copa Macaya (Catalan championship) in 1902, and in 1910 “Barça” won the Copa del Rey (“King’s Cup”)—Spain’s leading national football cup competition—for the first time. In total, Barcelona has won 30 Copas del Rey, more than any other team.

La Liga, the top Spanish football league, was formed in 1929, and Barcelona captured the title in the league’s inaugural season. The club has won La Liga 26 times and has never been relegated to a lower division. Abroad, Barcelona has won the European Cup Winners’ Cup four times (1979, 1982, 1989, and 1997), the European Cup/Champions League five times (1992, 2006, 2009, 2011, and 2015), and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Super Cup three times (1992, 1997, and 2009). In 2008–09 it won the La Liga championship, the Copa del Rey, and the continental championship (Champions League) to become the first Spanish side to capture this “treble,” a feat it repeated in 2014–15.

Barcelona’s local adversary is RCD Espanyol, but its biggest rival in Spain is Real Madrid . Games between the two teams are referred to as El Clásico (“The Classic”) and attract major interest throughout Spain, in large part because the two sides symbolize for many the ongoing political and cultural difficulties between Catalonian (Barcelona) and Castilian (Real Madrid) Spain. In addition to a long history of signing some of the football world’s biggest names—including Johan Cruyff in the 1970s, Diego Maradona in 1980s, Luis Figo and Rivaldo in the 1990s, and Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o in the 2000s—Barcelona also has developed a number of its own stars, such as Xavi and Argentinian forward Lionel Messi (a football prodigy who at age 24 became the club’s all-time leading goal scorer). Many of the club’s players have contributed to the Spanish national team’s greatest successes, including capturing the 2008 and 2012 European Championships and the 2010 World Cup . In the 2010 World Cup final, for example, 7 of Spain’s 11 starters were from Barça.

Date and time set for Dani Olmo’s presentation as new Barcelona player

' src=

After weeks of speculations, FC Barcelona are all set to wrap up the signing of former La Masia prodigy Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig.

There is an agreement between the clubs over a €55 million deal, with another €7 million in add-ons while the player has also agreed a six-year contract with Barcelona until 2030.

Having flown to Catalonia on Tuesday night itself, Olmo underwent his medicals yesterday and cleared them successfully. An official announcement of his transfer is imminent.

Presentation date and time

Now, Gerard Romero has come forward with updates regarding the official presentation ceremony for Dani Olmo as a new Barcelona player.

As per the journalist, the Spaniard will be presented in front of the media as a new signing by the Blaugrana tomorrow, i.e., August 9 (Friday).

fc barcelona presentation

The presentation will take place at Ciutat Esportiva from 11 am in the morning, where he will sign his contracts with Barça president Joan Laporta.

It will be followed by a press conference during which Olmo will answer questions from the media.

It will be a special occasion for the 26-year-old attacking midfielder who left Barcelona back in 2014 as a youngster to join Dinamo Zagreb and now returns to his boyhood club a decade later.

The presentation ceremony could also offer confirmation about the shirt number that Olmo might take at Barcelona, with reports suggesting that the UEFA Euro 2024 will be donning the No. 20 jersey left vacant after former captain Sergi Roberto’s exit.

It will be interesting to see whether Olmo will be available to play in the Joan Gamper Trophy match against AS Monaco on Monday or if fans will have to wait to see him on the field until the La Liga opener against Valencia.

Presentation of FC Barcelona Supporters' Club Project

Presentation of FC Barcelona Supporters' Club Project

The FC Barcelona Board of Directors made use of the Penyes Festival to present its new project for the official supporters' clubs, which reaffirms its dedication to the movement and its intention to maintain a closer relationship with the fans and supporters' clubs from all over the world.

The fundamental objective of this new project is to revitalise and foster a more modern movement that affects more than 160,000 people and which brings benefits to the club. The idea is to shift from "What Barça can do for the Penyes to what the Penyes can do for Barça", applying a new management model and relationship without intermediaries between Penyes and the club, ensuring a model that is more transparent and fairer.

In order to develop all the changes that will enrich the relationship between the club and its supporters, as well as empowering Penyes to become true ambassadors of FC Barcelona in their regions, three core areas, or 'levers', have been taken into account, that will guide the entire project: Belonging, Recognition and Community.

The first of these is that of Belonging, where the goal is to achieve a more integrated supporters movement with FC Barcelona and its members, moving from pyramidal to a circular form of communication between club, members and Penyes, thus fostering more dialogue direct between all involved.

In order to do so, it will be essential for FC Barcelona to prepare a census of Pneya members, just as there has traditionally been a census of its official Penyes, which has allowed them to obtain so many benefits from the club.

During the 2022/2023 season, FC Barcelona will launch a new platform to prepare this census, where supporters club members will be able to enter their details directly, which will ensure proper processing and use. This census will serve to reduce fraud, to provide benefits to all Penya members (discounts on official products, tickets for matches, participation in Barça events, etc.) and also to ensure standardised communication with all members of the Penya community. But it will always be the club that will confirm who is part of the group and who is not, i.e. which Penyes are officially recognised, and which will validate the different requests received from its members, thus ensuring more streamlined management without losing any of the core components.

Recognition and Community

The main raison d'être of the Penyes is to promote the club around the world and the club wants to recognise and reward this commitment. To do so, FC Barcelona has modified the requirements to become an official Penya by applying certain standards. All Penyes must have a street level clubhouse, a minimum number of members, a TV screen to show FC Barcelona games, and so on. Official supporters' clubs will receive a certificate from the club to attest their official status, which must be displayed in a visible location so FC Barcelona members and fans can recognise it as such.

In order to obtain this certificate, Penyes will be attributed credentials based on the number of Barça members who are registered in the system, the actions and activities they perform, their attendance of matches, and, ultimately, their involvement with Barça and its teams The maximum distinction that a club can achieve is that of a 5 Star Penya.

Via this recognition, the club will be able to reward certain Penyes with more visibility on its official channels and offer it greater benefits. In other words, the more committed a Penya is to FC Barcelona, the more committed FC Barcelona will be to the Penya.

The third lever, Community, aims to take the movement worldwide, growing it on an international scale and so that the clubs closest to Barcelona also have an impact outside of their local communities. FC Barcelona will also be encouraging interrelationships between its Penyes so that they become a true supporter community that is more connected, more united and stronger.
