My Grandparents

I was lucky enough to grow up in my grandparent’s house. Our family lived with my grandparents since I was little. As my paternal grandfather passed away when I was very young, I only remember a few memories of him. One thing I surely remember is he used to brush his teeth twice daily without fail. I adopted this habit and ever since I have been doing the same.

My maternal grandparents have been my true systems of support. I am lucky enough to have grown up around such inspirational people. My grandfather was a principal of a college, so he always emphasized the importance of education . He helped us with our homework when my parents were not available. I spent my vacations at their place as I enjoyed living with them.

Similarly, my grandparents always embraced me with open arms. They used to wait for every holiday for our arrival. My grandmother made delicious pickles and meals which we relished greatly. She taught me a few recipes too and tips and tricks that are very useful even today. I simply adore my grandparents for instilling good values in me and my parents and for giving us a safe space to grow up in.

Why I love my grandparents and why they love me: Children on grandparents

A grandparent's love for grandchildren is special. And, "I love my grandparents" are words almost every grandchild says about grandparents. Read on to know why children love them so much

Why I love my grandparents and why they love me: Children on grandparents

Grandparents love and care for their grandchildren. In fact, they are willing to do anything for their grandchildren. When the grandchildren are young, grandparents take on the role of caretakers, playmates, stress relievers, storytellers, and instillers of moral values. And, when grandkids grow up, grandparents change themselves too. They become friends, advisers, arbitrators, pillars of support, and close confidantes.

Grandchildren, in return, love their grandparents. The love and affection that grandchildren have for their maternal and paternal grandparents can't be described in words. However, listening to what grandkids have to say about their grandparents will help us understand how deep and strong their bond is.

I love my grandparents because...

Here's what some grandchildren said when asked "I love my grandparents because...

"Both my grandmothers are a form of God on earth. They help me with my daily work like my homework and they always give me suggestions for all my problems. My grandmothers cook well and make sure that I have a good meal before going to bed."

- Saakshath Vijay (11 years old), Chennai

"Whenever I fall sick for more than one day, I tell my dad to take me to my grandma's place. I don't think anyone can take better care of me than my grandma. On days when I feel like having my favorite dish, I call her up and she prepares it for me. When I score full marks in my exams, my grandpa buys me whatever I ask for. It is a secret deal between us."

- Zubin (8 years old), Trivandrum

"My grandparents take good care of me. My grandfather takes me out for a walk in the park and around the neighborhood on his bike. He is always ready to play with me whenever I feel bored. He sings songs and advises me on everything. My grandmother is a cheerful woman. She is always smiling and ready to cook whatever I want to eat. I love to crack jokes with them and I love the way they pamper me."

-Samyuktha (14 years old), Chennai

"I like my grandmother because she gives me a lot of stuff to eat. My grandfather is an easy victim to play pranks on. I pretend to fall down the stairs and he comes running over, but then I yell, 'It's a prank.' And, the way he reacts is priceless."

-Brian Daniel Bennett, (12 years old), Chennai

"My maternal grandfather buys me exciting science toys and instruments like the microscope, while my grandmother is very encouraging. She speaks good English, and her vocabulary is great. She helps me in writing my speeches and compositions. My paternal grandfather is very active and enthusiastic. While he plays games with me such as football, cricket and UNO. However, my grandmother is a bit strict. She makes me study whenever she comes home. I love my grandparents. They are like my friends and so much fun to be with."

- Ishaan Abraham Pichamuthu (9 years old), Vellore

My grandmother teaches me good manners and takes good care of me when I am sick. My grandfather buys me all my favorite food items.

-Raja Swaminath (9 years old), Chennai

My grandparents tell me stories and never scold me.

- Karthik (4 years old), Chennai.

"The reason I love my grandparents is that they are the only ones who either forget or forgive my mistakes."

-Yash Patil (18 years old), Chennai

Grandparents' love

The way grandparents love their grandchildren is different from that of parents, uncles, aunts, and other relatives. Here are a few ways grandparents express their love:

  • Listening to everything that grandchildren have to say - even the most uninteresting things
  • Make sure the grandchildren are well-fed, comfortable, and cared for
  • Reassuring and comforting grandchildren when they are going through a difficult time
  • Extending their support to grandchildren at all times and in all situations
  • Sharing their life experiences with their grandchildren
  • Telling bedtime stories
  • Calling the grandchildren with special nicknames
  • Relaxing the rules (yet making sure the grandchildren don't overstep boundaries)
  • Engaging in activities with grandchildren

The emotional closeness that grandchildren feel with their grandparents is not visible in any other relationship. Not only do grandchildren feel secure and happy in the presence of their grandparents, but also deeply valued and cherished.

What a Grandparent’s Unconditional Love Does

Posted by Ken Canfield, PhD | Jun 30, 2020 | Grandchildren , Grandmothers , Healthy Relationships | 0 |

by Ken Canfield, Ph.D.

When adults describe their grandparents, one phrase appears again and again: unconditional love . When we are healthy, mature grandparents functioning well in the family, love and grace become the driving forces of our relationships with our grands.

Here are some examples we’ve collected:

They did not have the best of everything or a lot of anything, but they made sure I was loved unconditionally. I miss them!

What a Grandparent’s Unconditional Love Does

[From Grandma] I have learned how to love unconditionally, to forgive without question, to be a positive example … and to not be so judgmental of others.
My grandma was a nurse who taught me to care about life, to serve others, and to become a happy and kindhearted person. I’m convinced grandmas are God’s angels who touch our lives and hearts with their unconditional love .
My grandma raised six children and ran the family farm after my grandpa’s death at a young age, and she did all this without so much as a complaint. She also didn’t allow sadness to take over. She taught us unconditional love and acceptance.
Grandparenting is about giving unconditional love, sitting on the floor and playing without worrying about the dirty dishes, and recognizing the important and blessed role I play in the lives of my grandchildren. I only hope I can live up to the example my grandma set.

A grandparent’s unconditional love sticks with children for many years. But where does that come from?

Part of it is from the freedom and hope and joy we feel with our grandchildren that we may not have known as parents. We have less of our ego wrapped up in our grandchildren’s behavior or performance, and so we accept them for who they are, we love them unconditionally, and we can be there for them in a way no one else can.

Most of us would do anything in our power for those precious grandkids. And sometimes that’s easy, but often our love will be tested by broken relationships , or when a grandchild takes a path that goes against what we believe.

But really, aren’t those the times that define love as unconditional ?

Maybe love will motivate us to appreciate the person even when we don’t approve of their actions. Or we admit that we were wrong and ask forgiveness . Maybe we’ll make sacrifices so we can take on a bigger role in mentoring or caring for our grandkids during a time of need.

Those grace-filled connections with our grandchildren will also be vitally important during the child’s teen years, which are often difficult for everyone in the family. When communication breaks down or emotions are running high at home, everyone benefits when grandparents are available. Parents can go to their parents for wisdom, and teens can turn to Grandpa or Grandma for unconditional love. We grandparents also help to meet needs in ways the parents can’t, or that they don’t see, which can be a huge help.

That’s what love does. And grandparents can do it like no one else.

Essay On ‘My Grandparents’ For Kids – 10 Lines, Short & Long Essay

Shaili Contractor

Key Points To Note: Essay On Grandparents For Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on grandparents for kids, a paragraph on grandparents, short essay on grandparents for kids, long essay on grandparents for children.

No one loves kids more than their grandparents! Grandparents pamper and shower affection all the time. And, they are the ones who teach good values to their grandkids, guiding them to become good people. Therefore, it is no wonder that every kid their grandparents are special. Whether maternal or paternal, grandparents symbolise kids’ love, fun, guidance, and happiness. For kids and the whole family, grandparents are the guiding lights that steer them in the right direction. So, writing an essay on grandparents is exciting for kids.

Though my grandparents’ essay is an exciting essay topic for kids, young kids may still find it a bit difficult to write. To help them write a perfect my grandparents’ essay, we have here a few pointers. Here are some key points to remember when writing an essay on grandparents for lower primary classes kids:

  • Write points related to the essay topic.
  • Add a personal touch to the essay by writing about personal feelings.
  • Write about the importance of grandparents in your life.
  • You can add brief information about grandparents’ day.
  • Remember to structure your essay coherently with an introduction, middle and conclusion.

Writing about a subject in sentences is easier than writing an essay for class 1 and 2 students. Therefore, to make them interested in writing, ask them to write sentences and proceed with the essay. Breaking down a topic in sentences also helps them express their views; later, they can convert the sentences into paragraphs.

Here are ten lines on grandparents for kids for them to take inspiration from:

  • Grandparents are the best blessing every kid can have.
  • My grandparents are always there and love me a lot.
  • They play with me, teach me and also help me learn other creative things.
  • Sometimes, my grandparents cook for me and take me out to the park when my parents are busy.
  • At night, my grandparents help me brush and read bedtime stories.
  • Not only me but my grandparents also love to play with my friends and read stories with us.
  • On weekends, with my parents and grandparents, I go to picnics and have a lot of fun.
  • My grandparents are the ones who get most worried when I am hurt or sick.
  • They inspire me to become a good person and teach me to help others.
  •  I am lucky to have such loving and caring grandparents.

Writing a short paragraph suits young kids. A short paragraph with fewer sentences doesn’t overwhelm them; they can quickly note it. Once they can write short paragraphs on various subjects, they can comfortably write longer essays.

Here is a paragraph on grandparents for young kids:

The Grand in grandparents mean more. So, everything is more to grandparents, including more love, care, guidance and fun. My love and affection for my grandparents is different. Grandparents are frequently saviours and protectors for their grandkids. In today’s world of nuclear families, grandparents are not part of the daily lives of grandkids. Still, for grandkids like me, grandparents are precious. I wait to be with them and look forward to their visits. My grandparents, too, are an important part of my life. I enjoy visiting them and treasure the times spent with them.

My Grandparents Essay For Kids - 10 Lines, Short and Long Essay

Grandparents are idols for every kid. Therefore, kids of all ages enjoy expressing themselves. However, young kids may find it hard to write essays on grandparents. Here is a short essay on Grandparents in English for kids for reference:

My grandparents are the most precious people in my life. They assist me in everything from studies to drawing to solving arguments with my friends. They always look after me and care for me. My grandparents are the ones who are the most worried about my well-being and safety. Whenever I am upset or sad, my grandma is the one who cares for me and cheers me up. Her loving hug is enough to ward off all my troubles. She softly strokes my hair while she reads me goodnight stories. My grandma bakes delicious cakes, which are my favourite delicacy. My granddad assists me in doing my school assignments. Every weekend, he takes me to the park. I enjoy seeing him feed the local cats and dogs on the street. They’re my grandfather’s closest companions. Every evening, my grandfather also teaches me how to play chess. I love spending time with my grandparents. They are the ones who always help me and guide me to do the right thing.

As kids progress in their academics, they must write longer essays. Students of higher classes are capable of expressing their views in words better. Hence, they can write long essays on grandparents.

Here is a long essay for class 3 students on grandparents:

Grandparents are the best gifts of life. They are always keeping an eye on their children and grandchildren. But in modern days, most people are losing touch with their traditions as the times change. Nuclear families have changed the dynamics of family values. However, this has also made people realise the importance of grandparents. Grandparents are the pillar that supports the whole family and takes care of their kids and kids of their kids. They bind the entire family with their love and care.

Ask any kid who loves and spoils them the most. And the answer will be the same- grandparents. The love of grandparents is reciprocated equally by grandkids. Their grandparents are the most precious, and they love them the most. Grandparents adore and lavish their grandkids with love, attention, and gifts. But they are also the first people to correct the kids when they make a mistake. With love, they guide grandkids in their lives and teach them the correct values and morals to make them better humans.

In all our lives, grandparents are indeed a blessing. They are the ones who have shaped our parents’ personalities. Our parents love and care for us the way our grandparents did when they were children because of their upbringing. Grandparents are also a source of support. Even though our parents may not support us in a few things, they are often the only people who do everything. Most significantly, grandparents have complete faith in our abilities. They are the ones that encourage us to follow our aspirations in the face of adversity. Even though some of our dreams seem incomprehensible to them, they continue to believe in us. They increase our self-esteem and enable us to perform better. Grandparents are also one of the key reasons we feel secure and protected. We know that our grandparents constantly pray for us, even if we don’t live with them.

They’re on the lookout for us. The house of their grandparents is almost everyone’s heaven. We feel at ease knowing we can always go to our grandparents’ house if needed. They assist us in various ways. Therefore, it’s no surprise that we cannot imagine our lives without our grandparents. We know our grandparents are wonderful gifts that not everyone is fortunate enough to get.

The Role of Grandparents and Their Importance in Children’s Lives

  • by Gretchen Gatan Fragada
  • November 3, 2023

In today’s fast-paced world, the role of grandparents in the lives of children remains as vital as ever.

Beyond the traditional notions of extended family, the role of grandparents contribute an invaluable wealth of love, wisdom, and a unique perspective that can profoundly shape our children’s upbringing. As the saying goes, grandparents are the roots of a family tree ! And their influence runs deep, nurturing the young branches with their experience and unconditional affection.

The Role of Grandparents and Their Importance in Children's Lives

A Supportive Anchor

Grandparents serve as a crucial support system for both parents and children. They offer a sense of stability and reliability that is especially comforting during times of change or crisis. Like the postpartum period . Their unwavering presence can help children navigate the often tumultuous waters of adolescence, offering a safe harbor when needed most.

In a world that often seems to spin faster every day, with work and other priorities taking a toll, the slower pace and quality time spent with grandparents can provide a welcome respite. Whether it’s listening to stories from their own youth or simply sitting in silence. Children gain a sense of continuity and belonging that stems from this connection with their grandpa and grandma.

Willing Caregivers

Grandparents often serve as a priceless resource when it comes to providing free babysitting for their grandchildren! Their willingness to step in and offer their time and care is a testament to their deep love and commitment to the family.

As trusted caregivers, grandparents can offer parents a much-needed break! Whether it’s for a date night, a work commitment, or simply some time to recharge. They create a safe and nurturing environment where children feel at home, knowing they are cherished and understood. This invaluable support allows parents to juggle the demands of modern life while ensuring their children are in the best hands possible.

A Living History Book

Grandparents are living encyclopedias of family history, culture, and traditions. They bridge generational gaps, helping our children understand their heritage and learn from the past. Through their narratives, grandparents share the wisdom they’ve accumulated over the years, instilling a strong sense of identity and heritage.

From recounting family anecdotes to teaching time-honored recipes or customs, grandparents impart the essence of their roots. This connection to the past can foster a deep appreciation for family values, cultural diversity, and the importance of preserving traditions.

A Love Like No Other

One of the most profound gifts that grandparents offer is unconditional love. In their presence, children experience a unique, less-structured form of love that is unconditional and unburdened by the responsibilities of day-to-day parenting. This type of love is a sanctuary where children can be their authentic selves, free from judgment.

Grandparents are often more patient and indulgent, allowing children to explore and express themselves without fear. This nurturing environment fosters self-confidence and self-esteem, providing a critical foundation for emotional well-being and resilience.

Mentors and Role Models

Grandparents can play a role in shaping a child’s moral compass and values. With the benefit of life experience, they offer guidance, teaching important lessons and modeling good behavior. Their wisdom can help children navigate life’s complexities and develop a sense of empathy and understanding.

Grandparents often possess unique talents and skills that they can pass on to their grandchildren, whether it’s playing a musical instrument, gardening, or storytelling. These shared experiences create a sense of accomplishment and interests that deepen their bond.

The Role of Grandparents and Their Importance in Children's Lives

The role of grandparents in a child’s life is irreplaceable!

Their influence extends beyond the immediate family, connecting children to their past and imparting valuable lessons. As a wellspring of love, wisdom, and support, grandparents play an integral role in shaping the adults their grandchildren will become.

And in an era where the pace of life can be relentless, it’s essential to encourage and nurture the relationships between grandparents and grandchildren. The lessons they impart and the love they provide are gifts that will enrich the lives of generations to come. So, let’s celebrate the timeless treasures that are our grandparents and ensure that their place in our children’s lives remains a cherished and pivotal one.

Long and Short Essays on Grandparents for Students and Kids in English

Over here, we have written as samples one long essay of 500 words, one short essay of 100-150 words, and ten crucial points that comprehensively cover the subject matter.

Long Essay on Grandparents in English 500 Words

Essay on Grandparents is usually given to students of classes 7, 8, 9, and 10.

In pre-industrial and post-industrial setups, the family seemed to be the only functioning social unit. This means that life, for every individual, started and ended within the family. The concept of joint families gradually evolved with the rise of modernity. People in joined families lived together. In the case of joint families, grandparents had a more prominent presence. Such grandparents would usually be the head of the household because of their age.

They also had an important role to play in strengthening family ties and resolving family issues. Children would look at them as their household friends. From reading out stories to saving the child from his parents, grandparents were an integral part of any family with a large number of children. Apart from being caring and protective, grandparents would also be very inspiring to the children. They would often act as role models and provide children without enormous support. In some cases, grandparents would be a child’s only hope.

With the advancement of age, family structures broke down into several small units. Joint families became nuclear families. Most of these nuclear families would consist of a single child and two of his parents. The absence of a household friend often has a psychological impact on the child. Without grandparents, the child tends to be alone and unattended most of the time. This is because these days, both the parents of a child seem to be working. The whole concept of nuclear families has eroded the idea of grandparents to a considerable extent. Parents do not allow children to engage with their grandparents in any way.

In the case of vacations, they opt out of letting the child visit his or her grandparents. Instead, they send them vocational training. Competition and globalization have played an enormous role in influencing the attitude of the parents. Most of them want to make their child the best among everyone.

Since this attitude is shared by many, there is always a sense of strong and stiff competition. The thought of such competition takes away a child’s hobby and his or her past time. This makes it even more difficult for a child to know his or her grandparents. On the other hand, globalization has ushered in the idea of separate and independent living rather than living together.

Most parents often resort to living separately because they feel that their parents are a burden after a certain age. Often, cases are heard when the elderly are seen dead in their households without anyone getting to know about it. This is the worst possible situation for any person. Being a grandparent has thus changed its definition these days. It is more about a formal relationship rather than a close one.

This leads to two things. One, grandparents become more lonely and suffer from that while children are unaccompanied too since they are deprived of a particular form of care and attention. Over the years, grandparents who were the lifeline and the backbone of individual families have come down to being a single entity. All this is because of a change in the ways at which people look at their lives have changed.

Short Essay on Grandparents in English 150 words

Short Essay on Grandparents in English 150 Words

Essay on Grandparents is usually given to classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Grandparents somewhat define the word ‘more.’ They are more than parents, more than friends, and more than caregivers. Grandparents are often the head of their families. The love and attraction between a child and his grandparent are of a different kind. In many cases, grandparents are saviors and guardians of their grandchildren. Nowadays, however, the conceptual understandings have changed. Since people are more engrossed in a competitive lifestyle, the whole idea about a family has gone under transformation. Usually, one might not find grandparents in a single nuclear family. This is because they are often considered to be burdensome. However, there are cases of nuclear families having grandparents. Over there, the child usually enjoys enormous love and support.

250 Words Essay on How I Help My Grandparents

Grandparents are the precious gems of the family. They are the repository of wisdom and love. Helping them not only brings joy to their lives but also enriches us with life skills and values. As a college student, I have developed a unique way of assisting my grandparents, which I believe is an amalgamation of technology, empathy, and understanding.

Emotional Support

One of the primary ways I help my grandparents is by providing emotional support. I make sure to spend quality time with them, listening to their stories and sharing my own experiences. I believe that this emotional bonding helps in reducing their feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Introducing Technology

In this digital era, I help them embrace technology. I have taught them how to use smartphones and computers, enabling them to connect with their friends and family through social media, video calls, and emails. This technological interaction has opened a new world for them, keeping them engaged and informed.

Physical Assistance

Despite their resilience, old age comes with physical limitations. I assist them in their daily chores, ensuring their safety and comfort. Additionally, I accompany them to their regular health check-ups, ensuring they maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Helping my grandparents is a rewarding experience. It has taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of family. It has also allowed me to give back to those who have given so much to me. Through emotional support, technological guidance, and physical assistance, I believe I am making their lives easier and happier.

500 Words Essay on How I Help My Grandparents

One of the most significant ways I help my grandparents is by providing emotional support. As they advance in age, they often experience a sense of loneliness and isolation. I spend quality time with them, engaging in conversations about their past experiences, their favorite books, or even current events. These interactions not only strengthen our bond but also stimulate their mental faculties, keeping them engaged and happy.

Physical assistance is another crucial aspect of my involvement in my grandparents’ lives. Age-related mobility issues often make it difficult for them to perform everyday tasks. I help them with grocery shopping, cleaning, and other household chores. I also accompany them to doctor’s appointments, ensuring they are in good health and their medical needs are met.

Technological Guidance

Educational exchange.

Education is a two-way street. While I help my grandparents understand the new-age technology, they enrich my life with their wisdom and life lessons. They share stories of their youth, their struggles, and their triumphs, providing me with a unique perspective on life and its challenges.

Helping my grandparents is not merely a responsibility but a rewarding experience that strengthens our bond and teaches me invaluable life lessons. It’s a humbling process that allows me to express my gratitude for their years of love and care. As a college student, it’s also a reminder of the cycle of life and the importance of family ties. I believe every young individual should take the time to assist their grandparents, as it not only enriches their lives but also contributes to personal growth and emotional maturity.

5 Reasons Why Grandparents Are Important

Illustration of hands high-fiving

Grandparents can play a unique and significant role in the lives of their grandchildren. Here are five gifts that engaged grandparents can give their grandkids:

Kids live in a different world from the one that those of us over age 50 grew up in. Life for them is so serious. There is pressure to perform, social cultures to navigate and an all-consuming media environment to balance. These demands can take a toll on a child’s health and well-being. The difference a grandparent can make in helping a child navigate life clearly shows  why grandparents are important .

I was thinking about all of this recently after a visit with my granddaughter.

“Papa, I love it when you laugh at yourself,” she told me after I had made a silly comment about something I had done. It reminded me how much of a gift it is to be a grandparent—and how we can be a gift to our grandkids. All children need a little laughter in their lives, and as grandparents, we can meet this need. We can model joy and humility, demonstrating a more lighthearted approach to life.

5 Reasons Why Grandparents are Important

Grandparents  can play a unique and significant role in the lives of their grandchildren. Here are five gifts that engaged grandparents can give their grandkids:

Unconditional Love

Grandkids experience unconditional love when we love them for who they are, not who we are trying to get them to be. We can coach and teach them, loaning them our wisdom so they have the opportunity to make good choices.

Perspective

Recently both a youth pastor and a pastor for young adults told me they desperately needed older people to walk alongside our youth. Whether in elementary school, high school, or college, they need mentors who can help them see their world from a different perspective. Grandparents can provide valuable insights.

We can jump-start conversations by sharing a little about our pasts — what our childhoods and teen years were like, how we met our spouses, and what we’ve dreamed about doing. We can also model our values.

Of course, we may need to seek counsel from those who are younger to help us better understand the issues our grandchildren are facing. So seek out those who work with young people. Ask them how you can be involved.

Especially for Grandparents

If there is one word to define life during the last couple of years, it’s “change.” Grandchildren need stability amid societal turbulence — someone to stand with them and beside them. Family traditions and history foster stability, and  grandparents  can impart this information to help kids feel they belong.

When I was growing up, my favorite reads were  adventure books . I loved the possibility of real adventure and often dreamed that I might have my own. My grandfather took me on several trips because he understood this need.

Grandparents can open worlds of exploration to their grandchildren when we listen to their interests. We can use our lifetime of experiences and knowledge to explore our city, a new trail, a new restaurant, a museum, an observatory, or a nearby fishing hole. We also make good volunteers, especially when serving with our grandchildren to help a ministry we’re both passionate about.

Grandchildren may need help sorting out big issues in their lives. I love when my grandkids ask me what I’ve learned about an issue. Issues may change, but  God’s love  and truth do not. Our lives can become an example for our grandkids about how He helps people. Our past can show how our Lord works in our hearts and in our interactions with others to refine us into wise and resilient Christ followers.

We don’t want to be people who go through life in completely separate worlds from our grandkids. Our grandchildren need real connections, people who are interested in them while they process life and face its challenges. God’s plan has always been that as we age, we become “sages” for those who are younger. If we’re not engaged in the lives of our grandchildren, I wonder if we’re truly fulfilling what God asks of us during this stage of our lives. Loving our neighbor has to do with serving those God puts in our lives. Our grandchildren are near the top of our list.

An Essay on Time Spent with Grandparents [PDF]

Grandparents are so awesome, are not they? today we are going to see an essay on time spent grandparents, and how I feel while I spend my time with them, so let’s dive into the essay.

Essay on Time Spent with Grandparents feature image

While all my friends were getting excited about the weekend that they would see their grandparents, I never understood them. To me, there was nothing to talk about when they were talking about their grandparents.

Not that I had no grandparent, but we just never visited them. All our weekend would be spent on outdoor activities like children’s sports as we wait for holiday camping.

We never had any story to tell about our grandparents. Well, my elder siblings used to tell me that they used to visit granny when they were young. Nobody told me why they stopped.

However, the stories my classmates would tell about their experience with their grannies made me curious, wanting to have a story to tell too. So I asked mum that she take me to see them. Unexpectedly, she promised to take me over the next weekend. What a fun moment did I have!

I guess mum had told my grandparents about the visit, so they were eager to see us. Everything was wonderful. The first thing that took my attention is the type of traditional food that granny made for us.

I won’t say that mammy does not make us delicious food, but then the food I took that day was friendlier to my mouth. I loved the fact that she entertained by being in the kitchen.

I now understand why all that my friend talks about when it comes to their grandparents is food. Well, they have other stories, but when it comes to food, everyone wants to talk.

The weekend gave me a break from the baked food that we are used to at home. My grandmother noticed that I was so entertained about the food and so she packed the rest for me. What generous granny!

Another thing that made my day was how my grannies were able to give me stories, some fiction, while other real-life stories. For the first time, I spent a whole day without thinking about where my tab was for games.

The stories were so fascinating with lots of lessons. Even for the ones that seemed factious, they would talk about is as though they were present when the scene was taking place.

I loved the zeal that they had. I realized that most of the stories that my grandfather had been more of war-related, while those that my grandmother had been more of family and religious related.

In of the significant thing that I learned was that at times things happens in life that at times can make you doubt whether you will come out of it and smile.

I also enjoyed playing around with my grandparent’s pets. Wow! I am still thinking about Petra, my grannies’ doggy. This dog would run from one end of the compound to another as we play around with my cousin’s ball.

I realized he used loved playing around with the ball as though chasing me but on a jockey ground. This took the better part of my day since the compound was fascinating. I am not a cat lover, so I didn’t mind about the pet cat whom some people would call pretty.

I loved the whole day at my grandparents’ place. If mommy makes a joke about going back, I think I will spend the entire night doing my homework to make the proposed day free.

I have not been able to stop talking about the day. Every time we are storing as a family, I tend to get attracted to the memories I brought home. I am hoping that I will get such a change soon.

Grandparents Essay 1 (200 words)

The bond between grandparents and grandchildren cannot be described in words. Grandparents do not only inculcate good habits and moral values in the kids but also become their best buddies when it comes to having unlimited fun. While the parents try to provide all that they can to their kids for their all round development, their growth is incomplete without their grandparents.

It is seen that grandchildren possess many of the traits of their grandparents. You might have noticed them behaving exactly the same way at times. Interestingly, it is not just the case with those who stay together but also with those who hardly get a chance to meet each other. This is because kids inherit some of their grandparents’ traits by birth.

Unfortunately, the growing trend of the nuclear families has limited the contact between the grandchildren and grandparents and both tend to miss out on a lot owing to this. Parents must take out time and take their children to their grandparents’ place every once in a while to maintain the bond or call them over to stay. If meeting doesn’t seem possible as often then it is suggested to help them stay in touch with each other via phone or other means.

Grandparents Essay 2 (300 words)

Grandparents share a very special bond with their grandchildren. They get along well and are in their happiest state in each other’s company. In certain families, this bond is stronger than that of the parent and child. The love and affection the grandparents shower on their grand children is simply unmatched.

Bond between Grandparents and Grandchildren

While earlier children got to spend abundance of time with their grandparents, however, due to the growing trend of the nuclear family system they don’t get to see each other as often. While the parents have numerous personal and professional commitments to fulfil and cannot spare enough time to take their kids to the grandparents frequently, however, they must look for ways to ensure the two spend quality time with each other often enough. Here are a few tips that can come handy in this direction:

  • If you cannot visit your parents often or are unable to stay back due to your professional commitments then you can drop your children for a couple of days or call your parents to stay over at your place.
  • Travelling frequently can be a hassle, however, that should not dither you from staying in touch. Make sure your kids speak to your parents regularly via phone or video call.
  • You can also ask your children to post hand-written letters and cards to their grandparents. This may sound a bit old-fashioned but it can certainly make a lasting impact and nurture their bond.
  • Sending gifts has become easier with the advent of e-commerce portals. Make your kids select gifts for their grandparents and send them on special occasions.

The life lessons that grandparents teach cannot be learned by reading any number of books or attending any class. Parents are the connecting point between grandchildren and grandparents and they must take it as a responsibility to ensure they keep this connection alive.

Grandparents Essay 3 (400 words)

Grandparents are known as the root of the family. They are experienced and knowledgeable and share their valuable life lessons to help the newer generations learn and grow. They serve their children and grandchildren selflessly and help them become better human beings.

Joint Family System: A Boon for the Kids

Here are a few factors that support this ideology:

In a joint family system when a child stays with grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins, he learns how to bond with different kinds of people. Such kids seldom have difficulty bonding with people when they step out as compared to those who just see their parents or domestic help for most part of the day.

  • Valuable Lessons for Life

When the kids are in their growing stage and need to be taught valuable lessons to help them understand life better, parents are often busy with their career and hardly get to spend quality time with them and teach them the nitty-gritties of life. Grandparents are far more experienced and often get to spend much more time with the kids in a joint family system. Children living in a joint family thus learn good moral values and other valuable lessons for life.

  • Broadens their Horizons

Children often tend to imitate us. When they stay in a nuclear family they often adapt the habits of mother or father and start behaving in a certain manner. However, staying in a joint family broadens their perspective. They come in contact with different people and learn how a single task can be done in different ways and choose the way they like the best rather than blindly imitating one.

  • Sharing and Caring

Though the child gets to enjoy the company of different family members living in a joint family system, he is not the sole point of focus. He understands that every big and small thing brought is not wholly and solely for him and is to be shared among the members. It thus helps develop the habit of sharing and makes him more sensitive towards the needs of others.

All the special occasions such as birthdays and festivals become all the more special when you celebrate it together.

  • Support System

Grandparents act as a great support system for the family. You can count on them anytime. As they grow old, they also require attention and care and joint family fulfils their requirement too.

The joint family system is said to be the best for the growth and development of the children. Though the concept is slowly fading away, some people still prefer it over the more popular nuclear family system for the aforementioned reasons.

Grandparents Essay 4 (600 words)

Becoming a grandparent can be one of the best feelings in the world. There is a special bond that grandparents share with their grandchildren and it grows stronger with time if nurtured carefully.

Tips for New and Expecting Grandparents

Grandparents are usually more excited about the arrival of a new born in the family as compared to the parents. If you are an expecting or new grandparent and are feeling nervous about taking up this new responsibility then the following information should help:

  • Extend Support

Your responsibility as a grandparent begins much before the arrival of your little bundle of joy. Extend your support to your children as soon as you receive the good news. Provide tips on how to take care of oneself and the child during that crucial phase and also give them the affirmation that you are there to guide and support them at every step. Make sure you keep your promise and extend your support whenever required.

  • Be Realistic

Even as you should be there to support your children during this phase and after the child is born, this should not force you to take major life-changing decisions such as leaving your job or relocating. Always remember, you can support the other person and provide love and care only when you are at peace and satisfied in your own life. Don’t stop being who you are.

  • Don’t Go Overboard with Shopping

Many grandparents get a bit too excited and tend to pick anything and everything that comes their way for their grandchildren. While your emotions are completely understandable, you must always act wisely when it comes to money matters. Go easy on shopping. Don’t buy stuff just for the sake of buying.

  • Establish a Healthy Relationship

Though you are super excited about the arrival of the new born, don’t forget that he has another set of grandparents too and they are likely to be equally excited at the news. Share your responsibilities with them rather than trying to nudge all on them or trying to do everything on your own. Communicate with each other, maintain a cordial relationship and do your bit to ensure healthy upbringing of the kid.

  • Don’t Force Bonding

It is understandable that grandparents wish to establish a special bond with their grandchildren. However, many go overboard with it. They begin to compete with others or force the kids to like them. This way you are more likely to portray a negative image in front of the kid. Just spend time with your grandchildren, take good care of them and let the bonding happen naturally over the time.

  • Maintain Contact

Maintain contact with your children and grandchildren if you are staying away. Call them often, visit them and invite them to your place to ensure you meet your grandchildren regularly and spend quality time with them.

  • Give Life Lessons

As your grandchildren begin to grow, take it up as a responsibility to inculcate good moral values in them. Share your experiences and stories with them to help them learn how to handle different situations.

  • Don’t Be Rigid

You have your own set of ideologies and possess a far better sense of right and wrong. However, this doesn’t mean you have to set stringent rules for your grandchildren. It is your duty to guide them; however, don’t be too rigid while dealing with them. Be flexible, listen to their ideas and bend rules whenever required.

Becoming a grandparent, especially for the first time, can be an overwhelming experience. Be calm, patient and don a positive outlook as you enter this new phase of life.
